Oklahoma bridge comes down in seconds

Anticipation builds as implosion delayed by two hours.

Crews imploded a bride in Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the morning of Feb. 17. According to a report from the Tulsa, Oklahoma television station, News on 6, crews imploded the old highway 51 truss bridge over Fort Gibson Lake.

A large crowd gathered at an observation deck near Fort Gibson Lake to watch the bridge come down. The demolition was scheduled for 7:30 a.m., but was delayed by two hours. When the implosion finally went off around 9:30 a.m., the bridge trusses turned to rubble in a matter of seconds.

The 67-year-old bridge crosses the Grand River and Fort Gibson Lake. It was built in 1949, and according to locals in the report, was in disrepair.

A $16 million replacement bridge opened to traffic last month, that is reportedly much smoother.
