Ohio EPA Holding Hearing on Proposed Concrete Recycler

Hearing is scheduled for Oct. 18.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Akron Regional Air Quality Management District will be holding a public meeting Oct. 18 to discuss a draft air permit issued to Ohio Concrete Recycling, LLC.

Ohio Concrete needs the permit to continue with an existing concrete crushing and recycling operation in Akron. Air emissions sources covered under the permit would include a diesel-fired generator, aggregate processing plant, roadways and storage piles.

If given final approval, the permit would establish limits on emissions and the operation, and require the use of best available technology to control emissions. Emissions limits are established to ensure compliance with federal clean air standards and protect public health.

Citizens may testify at the hearing or submit comments in writing to: Lynn Malcolm, Akron Regional Air Quality Management District, 146 South High Street, Room 904, Akron, Ohio 44308. The public comment period ends October 25, 2007.

The draft air permit and related materials are available at the same address by first calling (330) 375-2480 or online at: www.epa.state.oh.us/dapc/pti_issued/pti_pdf_07/1602475d.pdf.
