The National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA) joined 64 trade associations on a letter sent to congressional leadership May 15 urging support for H.R. 5, also known as the Equality Act. The legislation would amend the 1964 Civil Rights Act to affirm clear protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
“Our member companies recognize the value of equal opportunity because it enables them to attract and retain the most talented employees, serve their customers and communities better, and it is the right thing to do. We urge Congress to pass the Equality Act so that all people can pursue the American Dream,” NWRA President and CEO Darrell Smith said.
A copy of the letter along with a list of signatories can be found online.
