Vancouver-based Northstar Clean Technologies Inc. says it has received an Environmental Awareness Award from the Waste Management Association of British Columbia (WMABC). Northstar, a recycler of asphalt shingles, received the award at a late February WMABC event.
At the same event, Gord Johnson, co-founder and a director of Northstar, participated by presenting on the topic of construction and demolition materials recycling.
Says Johnson, “We are grateful for this recognition from the WMABC. Northstar’s proprietary reprocessing technology recovers 100 percent of the constituent components of asphalt shingles, otherwise destined for landfill, for reuse in the circular economy. We very much appreciate WMABC highlighting our innovative process to members of the waste management industry, roofing contractors and homeowners.”
Northstar says it process extracts the liquid asphalt, aggregate and fiber for use in new hot mix asphalt, construction products and other industrial applications. The company plans to reprocess used or defective asphalt roofing shingle scrap back into its three primary components for resale and reuse at its Empower Pilot Facility in Delta, British Columbia, Canada, and at planned future commercial facilities.
“We were pleased to award Northstar our 5th Annual Environmental Award for their innovative recovery in the asphalt shingles recycling sector in British Columbia,” says WMABC Executive Director Lori Bryan. “Northstar is a valued member of WMABC and we look forward to seeing what their Empower Pilot Facility will accomplish in the future.”
Northstar will talk more about its process in late March, when Northstar President, CEO and Director, Aidan Mills, will speak at the Kinvestor Green Future 2023 Virtual Investor Conference. At that March 28 presentation Mills will discuss Northstar’s shingle recycling process as well as the company’s latest progress at its planned scale-up facility in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (the Empower Calgary Facility).
