Northshore introduces two grapples

Northshore Manufacturing, Two Harbors, Minn., has introduced two new, Builtrite-branded, trash handling/sorting grapples. The grapples incorporate a number of improvements over previous versions, including the addition of heavy-duty cylinder shrouds; and abrasion resistant, bolt on wear bars on the grapple edges, according to the company. The company says the grapples can handle bulky items as well as pick and place single items.

The grapples can be used in a wide variety of applications, including:

• Waste transfer stations, where they are used to sort, load and tamp municipal solid waste.
• Construction and demolition debris recycling yards, where they are used to sort a wide variety of materials and to load shredders, hoppers and conveyors. 
• Wood recycling yards, where they are used to load brush, logs and lumber into chippers. The grapple also is equally adept in handling the large and the finished, chipped product, the company says.
• Light demolition work, where they are used to demolish wood and brick structures, such as houses/small office buildings.
• Road side maintenance and pick up, where they work on wheeled excavators for storm debris pick up and ditch cleanout.

Key features Include:

• Available in a hanging style for material handlers or as a “wristing” style, which uses the excavator bucket linkage to articulate the grapple;
• Heavy-duty rotation using a 20-inch rotation bearing and a high-torque hydraulic motor for precise placement;
• Bolt-on replaceable wear edge;
• Shrouded, heavy-duty cylinders; and
• Two models, for 13-ton to 25-ton excavators/material handlers.
