North Carolina Town Considers Expanding C&D Landfill

Owner of landfill wants to increase disposal area by 54 acres.

 

The owner of a construction and demolition landfill in Kimesville, N.C., has announced plans to increase the site’s disposal area by more than 54 acres, according to a report in the Times News (Burlington, N.C.).

 

The state Department of Environmental and Natural Resources will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on July 21 to hear how residents respond to Kent Coble’s Sandrock Construction and Demolition Debris Landfill’s proposed facility permit. Written statements will be accepted by the state until Aug. 5.

 

According to the report, the landfill, owned and operated by Kent Coble, accepts land clearing debris and C&D debris generated from construction, remodeling, repair or demolition of pavement, buildings or other structures. Solid, liquid, medical, radioactive material along with asbestos, yard trash, white goods, septic waste or sludge are not permitted.

 

The landfill serves Alamance, Cabarrus, Caswell, Catham, Davidson, Durham, Forsyth, Guilford, Lee, Orange, Randolph, Rockingham and Wake counties. The facility receives between 130 and 150 tons of material per day.
