North Carolina County Approves Funding for Transfer Station

New transfer station will collect C&D material and MSW.

The Macon County (North Carolina) Board of Commissioners has approved a motion to pay $1 million for a transfer station in the Town of Highlands, N.C., according to a report in the Franklin Press (Franklin, N.C.).

The county will borrow $1 million to pay for its part of the project, and the Town of Highlands will fund the remaining $500,000 needed to complete the facility, according to the report.

The current C&D landfill in Highlands will close in June. The new transfer station will be used to collect C&D material and municipal solid waste (MSW) in Highlands, which will be transported to the Macon County Landfill in Franklin, N.C.

The contract will be funded through the Solid Waste Enterprise fund, which receives no tax dollars, according to the report.
