NJ Gravel Company Seeks Recycling Permit

New Jersey township comes out in opposition to C&D permit request.

A gravel company that has been performing some crushing operations at a site it owns has applied for a permit to operate a construction and demolition recycling facility on the site.

While the company presently is operating with a temporary permit to allow it to remove wood and concrete from the property, formerly a gravel pit, its attempt at getting a permit to take in C&D material for processing from the market has run into significant opposition from residents of Barnegat, N.J.

Shore Line Sand and Gravel, which has had the temporary permit to do some processing, saw their request unanimously opposed by the township’s town council on Jan. 17th. A spokesman said that one of the reasons the town came out in opposition to the permit request is that the facility is operating at a site that is zoned residential.

A temporary permit allows the company to grind and process material it generates itself through its operations. A full permit would allow the company to take in material from outside sources.

While the company has had its petition opposed by the city, Shore Line Sand will appear before the Ocean County Solid Waste Advisory Council Jan. 24th, where it hopes to have its request approved.
