When completed, Philadelphia’s Comcast Center will be the tallest green building in the United States, the U.S. Green Building Council tells the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The cable company’s new office building will stand 57 stories, and the designer, real estate firm Liberty Property Trust, Malvern, Pa., has announced plans to seek the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for the structure, according to the report.
Among the green construction features included in the office tower’s designs are waterless urinals in the men’s rooms, according to Liberty.
The Philadelphia Business Journal also reports that floor heights were lengthened to 15 feet on some floors, and as high as 17 feet on others, to increase ceiling heights and the size of windows in order to allow more natural lighting.
