New Hanover County, North Carolina, will officially open its new Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling Facility July 7 with a ribbon-cutting.
According an article on the Star News Online website, the 30,000-square-foot facility is designed to divert more than 60,000 tons of C&D debris away from local landfills each year.
A February 2015 article on Construction & Demolition Recycling’s website notes a key reason for putting in equipment at the landfill is to extend the life. “We need to preserve the landfill as long as possible,” Joe Suleyman, director of the county’s Department of Environmental Management said in the article. “For every five years of operation, the site will gain 1.3 years of site life.”
