New Hampshire state lawmakers have begun drafting legislation that would make it illegal to burn wood from construction and demolition debris, according to a report in the Concord Monitor (Concord, N.H.).
The four proposed bills are specifically aimed at wood-burning electrical company Bio Energy Corp., Hopkinton, N.H. The company has been under fire from the community since the state Department of Environmental Services granted it permits to burn wood garnered from C&D debris at its plant last year, according to the report.
One of those permits allows the plant to emit up to 2.67 tons of lead each year, according to the paper.
The Monitor reports the DES proposed revoking a second permit in November 2004. A hearing on the issue is set to take place in March 2005.
