Residents have requested a public hearing to address concerns on a proposed permit that would allow residuals from a local compost plant in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., to be put into a local demolition debris landfill, according to a report in the Mountain Press (Sevier County, Tenn.).
The residuals currently go the Sevier County’s Class I landfill. Sevier Solid Waste Inc. (SSWI) has asked the Tennessee Department of Conservation (TDEC) for a permit modification to send the residuals to the demolition landfill instead, with the aim of saving space in the Class I landfill, according to the report.
SSWI would bury the residuals under the demolition material, Tom Leonard, SSWI manager, tells the Mountain Press.
