National Demolition Association Holding “Demolition Academy” during 2011 Convention

The National Demolition Association (NDA) will hold its Demolition Academy – an intensive safety and management training event – on March 5-6, the day before the association’s 38^th Annual Convention, scheduled for March 5-8, 2011 in Las Vegas. The NDA notes that the decision to connect the two events was made to allow “Academy” participants to take advantage of the convention.

The Demolition Academy begins March 5 with a demolition-specific OSHA 10-Hour Certification. For companies already holding the certification, there is concurrent in-depth training in basic industrial hygiene for the demolition industry, fall protection and developing and using a demolition engineering survey.

The March 6 session provides a continuation of the demolition-specific OSHA Certification of the previous day. The day also offers an option of a full-day management training workshops in generational communicating, OSHA’s new crane standard and a session called “When Disaster Strikes.”

The demolition-specific OSHA 10-Hour Training Certification is taught by certified instructors and is required by many of the industry’s larger clients, according to Michael Taylor, NDA’s executive director. “It should be an important part of every company’s safety training program and is also required as part of OSHA’s Disaster Site Worker Training Certification.” Taylor notes that the 2011 program will be the 17th year NDA will offer a formal safety training program to the industry.

Attendees can sign up for the entire safety/management program or the OSHA 10-hour for a flat fee of $175, or they can choose individual classes for $50 per class. Attendees are entitled to visit the convention exhibit hall on Sunday afternoon at no extra charge.
