NDA Convention: A Virtual Library

NDA’s revamped Web site serves as information hub.

The National Demolition Association (NDA) is urging its member companies to get to know the association’s revamped Web site (www.demolitionassociation.com) so they can use it to help explain how the demolition industry works in the 21st century.

Ray Paseno, incoming president of the NDA, offered attendees of the group’s 2009 Convention a tour of portions of the Web site, which has been revamped as of early 2009.

The site has been branded with the NDA’s new logo and accompanying slogan, “Making Way.”

Paseno noted that much of the information on the Web site follows thinking laid out by NDA officers and directors at a September 2007 strategic planning meeting. The Web site is “key to communicate worldwide” for the association, said Paseno.

For the NDA to both establish itself as the “voice of the industry” and expand its public relations and branding effort, the site includes several new features, including:

·         several two-minutes video clips on different aspects of the industry (including recycling)

·         a searchable list of mixed C&D recyclers.

·         a section on regulations with state-by-state listings

·         an online training section.

The comprehensive nature of the Web site is intended to help the association achieve its vision “to be recognized worldwide as the source of all things demolition,” said Paseno.

At the same Convention breakfast at which Paseno offered his Web site tour, Apollo General Insurance Agency and the Firemen’s Fund Insurance Company presented Chris Luhring, the fire chief of Parkersburg, Iowa, with a check for $16,333 to go toward rebuilding the town’s fire and police department facility.

The town was devastated by an EF5-class tornado on May 25, 2008, that brought winds up to 268 miles per hour that resulted in nine fatalities (seven in Parkersburg) and destroyed nearly 300 homes and more than 20 businesses—all in a town of just 2,000 people.

Luhring thanked all who contributed to the donation as well as to demolition contractors and other business owners with heavy equipment who helped in the rescue and clean-up efforts.

The 2009 NDA Convention took place April 5-8 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort in Orlando, Fla.
