The National Demolition Association’s board of directors has voted in favor of serving as a sponsor and supporter of a C&D recycling event being organized by Construction & Demolition Recycling magazine.
By a 14-to-3 vote, National Demolition Association board members voted in favor of working along with Construction & Demolition Recycling to identify topics and speakers and to encourage attendance at a new fall event, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 3-5 in Baltimore. Bob Brickner of Gershman, Brickner & Bratton (GBB) Inc., Fairfax, Va., also is serving as programming co-director.
“We’re excited to have the support of the National Demolition Association as we prepare a fall event that can offer an additional opportunity to bring demolition contractors, recyclers, waste and recycling public officials, and haulers and other service providers together to exchange information about this rapidly changing industry segment,” says Jim Keefe, publisher of Construction & Demolition Recycling magazine.
In other board activity, association past president Drew Lammers noted that the association’s emphasis on leadership development paid off in the form of 15 candidates responding to the opportunity to fill six positions on the National Demolition Association board of directors.
Lammers also asked board members and association members to consider whether the board needed to have 20 directors at all times, or whether the board should fluctuate in a size range of from 12 to 20 members.
National Demolition Association executive director Mike Taylor also encourages members to think about whether the group’s “regular members” category should be widened to include sub-contractors such as recyclers and abatement contractors, who are currently placed in the “associate members” category. “The goal is to make the organization more flexible [and] to better serve its members,” said Taylor.
Seven different committees also reported to the board and assembled membership. Mark Ryan of Carl Bolander & Sons, St. Paul, Minn., on behalf of the Education Committee, noted that the demolition industry textbook produced in cooperation with Purdue University is now in production, and that there are several interns from Purdue available to work at association member companies during the summer of 2010.
The National Demolition Association 2010 Annual Convention took place at The Mirage in Las Vegas March 20-23.
