National Gypsum Co. has the support of the Iosco County, Mich., Board of Commissioners in its efforts to lift a 50-year-old ban on late-night loading at several of its Michigan facilities, according to a report in the Iosco County News-Herald (Osconda, Mich.).
The commissioners voted their support at a meeting Feb. 16 to overturn a 23rd Circuit Court order that was issued in the late 1950s, which prohibits the company, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., from loading railcars and ships between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. from June 1 to Sept. 15.
The order also bans night loading on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights between Sept. 15 and Oct. 1, according to the report.
The order affects three facilities operated by National Gypsum in the state—a gypsum quarry in Grant Township, a processing plant in Sherman Township and a shipping port in Alabaster Township.
According to the News-Herald, company officials say the court order is impeding National Gypsum from meeting its customers’ needs.
