The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) welcomes France-based Arkema as its newest partner in “The Road Forward,” an industrywide vision for sustainable communities and commerce.

The partnership will help fund ongoing efforts to engage, educate and empower the U.S. asphalt community to produce and construct net-zero carbon emission asphalt pavements by 2050.

A NAPA associate member since 2010, Arkema provides the asphalt pavement industry with products ranging from specialty surfactants to pavement technologies, including warm-mix and adhesion-promoting additives, emulsifiers and strain-tolerant, crack-resistant pavement layers.

Lowering carbon emissions, optimizing the use of recycled materials, promoting pavement preservation, and the advancement of environmental stewardship and sustainability in the industry are among Arkema’s key initiatives. Arkema’s infrastructure business is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“We are grateful to Arkema for their support of ‘The Road Forward’ and the sustainability leadership they demonstrate within their company,” NAPA President and CEO Audrey Copeland says. “Their legacy and innovation advance our collective efforts to reach net zero by 2050.”

Arkema staff, ranging from lab experts to C-suite officials, have volunteered with NAPA for the past decade to advance the industry in capacities such as NAPA’s Net Zero Task Force, Balance Mixed Design (BMD) Implementation Task Force and Legislative Committee, among others.

“Arkema is dedicated to being a sustainability leader and focused on further developing solutions that meet the industry’s current and future social challenges. Our mission is to provide the asphalt industry innovative solutions that drive sustainability,” Arkema Business Director of Americas Infrastructure Ivann Harnish says. “We are proud supporters of ‘The Road Forward’ and are aligned with its goals.”

“The Road Forward” includes four industry goals, supported by 19 tactics backed by investments in research, implementation and ongoing education across all facets of the asphalt pavement industry. The initiative unites the entire U.S. asphalt community, from companies like Arkema to road owners and agencies at all levels. “The Road Forward partners actively support this work through financial contributions, leadership and expertise. 2023 partnerships are available to NAPA member companies through Aug. 1.
