N.C. Residents Question Proposed C&D Landfill

Traffic problems, property value reductions cited as potential problems.

Some residents of Onslow County, N.C., have expressed concerns over a plan to put a 50-acre construction and demolition debris landfill in their community, according to a report in the Jacksonville Daily News (Jacksonville, N.C.).

More than 200 residents attended a meeting with a representative from the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources on Feb. 1 to discuss their concerns, according to the report.

Residents cited potential traffic problems, noise, environmental concerns over dust levels and possible property value reductions as points of contention.

The landfill was first proposed in 2003 and is still in the process of obtaining a permit.

The plan has yet to be reviewed by the Onslow County Board of Commissioners, according to the Daily News.
