$4M C&D recycling center proposed in Michigan

Mulder’s Landscape Supplies Inc. and Waste Not Recycling LLC, both headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan, have proposed plans for a construction and demolition (C&D) recycling facility and transfer station in Kalamazoo Township, Michigan.

According to MLive, the $4 million, 20,000-square-foot facility would reside on five acres and employ 20 full-time workers. All recycling operations would be housed indoors.

“C&D recycling is a $7 billion industry supporting 28,000 U.S. jobs. We’re eager to help our community tap into this economic driver, especially at this critical time,” Art Mulder, president of Mulder’s Landscape Supplies, said in a release announcing the proposed facility.

Mulder’s Landscape Supplies Inc. and Waste Not Recycling LLC have applied for a special-use permit from Kalamazoo Township for the site, and a public hearing has been set for June 4. According to MLive, the proposal for the facility requires an amendment to the county’s solid waste management plan, which did not contain provisions for C&D waste recycling when it was drafted more than 20 years ago.

If approved, construction could begin on the project later this year or in early 2021, with estimated completion later next year.
