Morbark Inc., a recycling equipment manufacturer based in Winn, Mich., has introduced its Quick Switch grinder-to-chipper conversion kit. According to the company, the Quick Switch is available for Morbark track and rubber-tire horizontal grinder models 3800, 4600, 4600XL and 6600.
The company says the conversion kit allows current grinder owners to produce a marketable chip by modifying the hammermill of their horizontal grinders. The average conversion time using the kit is less than three hours, and the company says that with one machine capable of producing either chips or mulch, Morbark grinder owners can achieve expanded opportunities without the purchase of a second machine.
“This is a tremendous innovation for our customers,” says John Foote, vice president of sales and marketing at Morbark. “The Quick Switch’s ability to change from grinding to chipping and back creates opportunities for horizontal grinder owners by giving them new markets to supplement their grinding operations. It is an ideal solution for anyone involved in, or wanting to be involved in, supplying biomass fuel.”
“We expect the average conversion to be under three hours, depending on the overall maintenance and condition of the mill”, says Gary Bardos, vice president of manufacturing for Morbark. “We have been able to produce very high quality fuel and pellet chips during beta testing in the field. These mills will produce a chip between 5/8 inch and 3/4 inch with some level of control toward reducing the size through managing the feed rates.”
