The landfill owner is proposing to expand the facility into a recently excavated sand and gravel mining area. The 5.5-acre expansion will provide for continued operation of the demolition landfill. With the expansion, the facility's draft permit, if issued, would allow for a five-year capacity of about 150,000 cubic yards of debris. The current amount of debris at the landfill is slightly more than 100,000 cubic yards. The landfill also currently includes recycling, municipal solid waste transfer services and brush burning.
The EAW, a preliminary environmental review looking at how a proposed project could potentially affect the environment, is open to a 30-day public review and comment period.
Comments on the proposed project should be submitted in writing by 4:30 p.m. on Mar. 1, 2006, to Kelly Garvey, MPCA, Project Manager, Operations and Environmental Review Section, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, MN 55155-4194, by e-mail to kelly.garvey@pca.state.mn.us or by fax to 651-296-7782.
The MPCA will use these comments to evaluate the potential for significant environmental effects from the project and determine if an Environmental Impact Statement (a more comprehensive environmental review) is needed.
