Michigan Township Relocates Concrete Recycling Plant

Board of trustees ends two-year debate by approving amended relocation plan.

After two years of debate, officials in Shelby Township, Mich., have approved the relocation of a local asphalt and concrete recycling center, according to a report in the Macomb Daily (Mount Clemens, Mich.).

The site, owned an operated by Steve Messina, needed to be moved after its former location was rezoned for condominium development earlier this year, according to the report.

Residents of the proposed new site expressed concern over dust and increased truck traffic the facility would bring to the area.

In response to their concerns, the plan was revised and called for the concrete crushing operation to be more than 1,100 feet away from the nearest residence. The amended plan also required planting trees to reduce noise and providing an alternative entrance to the site to help ease traffic woes, according to the report.
