The equipment company Metso has announced plans to close its Dusseldorf, Germany, manufacturing plant, which makes equipment for the recycling industry.
The company says the decision to shutter the plant is based on current weak market demand and is part of the its global strategy to reduce costs and optimize its business processes with the goal of being able to offer high-quality equipment for the metals recycling business at competitive prices.
"The planned restructuring measures are a painful incision, but necessary to protect our business and our competitiveness in the current, very challenging market situation,” says Steen Toennes, senior vice president of Metso’s recycling business unit. “Unfortunately, the previously initiated adjustments in Dusseldorf are not enough, so we need to realign our strategy to changing market conditions. We strive to maintain our position as market leader in metal recycling and in the future to strengthen further. We will consistently focus on the development of our technology expertise.”
