Metso Outotec, headquartered in Helsinki, has announced that it will be scaling operations back in Sweden. The company, which formed in 2020 through the combination of Metso Minerals and Outotec, says it has convened local trade unions to negotiations concerning the restructuring and operational reduction of its operations in Sweden.
According to a news release from Metso Outotec, the measures relate to new product strategy and business model changes and synergy targets from the Metso Outotec merger. The Swedish operations have issued a negotiation proposal according to which the total reduction need in Sweden is about 80 positions, mainly in the Minerals, Metals and Services business areas in the Skellefteå and Sala locations. The company reports that other locations may be impacted to a small extent.
In November 2020, the company had also announced plans to divest its Recycling business as part of its strategy focused on growth and improving profitability. In December 2020, the company sold its aluminum production business unit to France-based REEL International SAS.
