MDS, a Northern Ireland-based brand of Terex Corp. that specializes in screening equipment, says it has seen a significant rise in demand for its M515 Heavy Duty Trommel in North America.
MDS says the M515 trommel has been designed to produce high-quality, precisely sized rip rap material, which is made from chunks of recyclable concrete or from quarried stone and is used in civil engineering applications.
“The M515 is playing a key role in helping customers meet the need for this material, driven by an increased focus on infrastructure development, flood protection and environmental conservation,” the company says.
The equipment provider says rip rap is categorized into five classes, ranging in sizes from 12-inch to 34-inch pieces. Each class is designed with a low percentage of fines, making it suitable for erosion control and structural applications, adds MDS.
MDS says the M515 is in demand at Powerscreen Crushing and Screening dealership locations in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama.
The M515 is equipped with a large hopper that can handle up to 22 tons of feed material and the trommel can then process rocks and concrete chunks as large as 2 feet, 8 inches wide or thick.
The track-mounted M515 also has been designed for ease of use and reduced operating costs, according to MDS, such as a swing-out engine for quick and hassle-free maintenance.
“The addition of a convenient access platform allows operators to perform service checks with minimal downtime," MDS says.
“One of the biggest advantages of the M515 is its loader feeder, which works wonders for sticky materials,” says Alan Coalter, president of Powerscreen Crushing and Screening, emphasizing the machine’s ability to tackle some of the toughest challenges in the rip rap.
“The trommel allows us to process bigger rock more effectively, eliminate the need for manual sorting and make better use of resources,” adds Coalter. “It provides more options and significantly improves the quality of the rip rap.”
“The M515 not only sets the standard for what’s possible in rip rap processing; it is a catalyst for growth in the North American rip rap market,” says Liam Óg Murray, a regional sales manager with MDS. “By enabling quarries to make better use of their raw materials, improve operational efficiency, and provide higher-quality products to customers.”
