Scrap-consuming aluminum alloys producer Matalco has started operations at its greenfield plant in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. The facility is the fifth alloys production plant operated by Matalco, which is a subsidiary of Brampton, Ontario-based Triple M Metal.
A late December online article by Wisconsin Rapids Tribune cites a company announcement stating production at the plant started Nov. 19, 2020. The groundbreaking for the facility was delayed by COVID-19-related restrictions, but the November startup met Matalco’s revised timeline.
The recent online article says by late December the Wisconsin Rapids facility already had shipped about 1,500 tons of product and that its annual capacity will be 120,000 tons of secondary aluminum billet.
In addition to the new facility, Matalco operates scrap-fed billet production plants near Triple M’s headquarters in Brampton, plus in Bluffton, Indiana, and in Canton and Lordstown, Ohio. On its website, the firm says it produces high-quality 6000 series billets.
