Massachusetts Sets Comment Dates

Public hearings scheduled for Massachusetts C&D disposal ban.

The long-awaited implementation of the Massachusetts disposal ban for C&D materials has moved a step closer to reality with the scheduling of public hearings. Public comment hearings on the proposal have been announced by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The Department has announced public hearings at four locations across the Bay State on the following dates:

  • Monday, June 28, from 5-7 pm at the DEP Central Regional Office, 627 Main Street, Worcester
  • Tuesday, June 29, from 5-7 pm at the DEP Western Regional Office, 436 Dwight Street, 5th Floor, Springfield
  • Wednesday June 30, from 5:30-7:30 pm at the DEP Southeast Regional Office, 20 Riverside Drive, Lakeville
  • Thursday July 1, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the DEP Boston office, 1 Winter Street, Boston, in the Washington Street Conference Room, 2nd floor.

The disposal ban prohibits concrete, asphalt, brick, wood, OCC, and metals from being disposed of in Massachusetts landfills. Copies of the proposed regulations are available from the Department by contacting a regional service center, or they can be obtained from the Department web site at: http://www.mass.gov/dep/bwp/dswm/dswmpubs.htm#regs.

The DEP will accept written comments on the proposed amendments to the Solid Waste Regulations until 5 p.m. on Friday, July 16.  Comments on the proposed regulations should be addressed to: James Doucett, Business Compliance Division, Department of Environmental Protection, 1 Winter Street, Boston, MA  02108.
