Maryland Wood-Recycling Landfill Seeks Rezoning

Some residents of Anne Arundel County, Md., have been butting heads over a proposed zoning change that would allow a Pasadena, Md. wood recycling landfill to continue recycling wood waste, according to a report in the Annapolis Capital (Annapolis, Md.).

A landfill operated by A-A Recycling and Sand Inc., Brooklyn, Md., is part of an area that the county is seeking to rezone from residential to a mix of commercial and industrial, according to the report.

The change would allow A-A Recycling to continue its operations, which some residents oppose, complaining of odor, noise and truck traffic.

The council passed a law banning wood recycling in area’s with the landfill’s zoning in 1999, and the company was given three years to relocate, according to the report. The Capital reports that since then, A-A Recycling has been given extensions from the county.
