Marin Out As CIWMB Chair

Rosario Marin’s tenure as chair of the California Integrated Waste Management Board is over after little more than a year.

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently appointed her secretary of the State and Consumer Affairs Agency, where she will oversee a variety of state departments. No announcement has been made as to who will be the next chair, or who will be the replacement on the board for Marin.

“For many years the scuttlebutt has been that the CIWMB was just a place to park favored political friends on a public payroll until a more suitable plum opened up for them,” says William Turley, executive director, Construction Materials Recycling Association. “This recent action makes it difficult to change that perception, and makes it difficult to believe the governor takes waste and recycling seriously.”
