The book, by Nick B. Ganaway, hopes to address the fact that 57 percent of contracting firms don’t make to their fifth year, according Small Business Administration statistics.
The author, a general contractor, says the managers, executives and tradespeople who start these business may have excelled at what they had been doing, but they may not be prepared to take on the full range of responsibilities that comes with managing an overall construction business.
Author Ganaway “speaks peer-to-peer, and the book is sprinkled with supporting examples from his own experience,” according to Butterworth-Heinemann. The book is “based on the things I’ve learned, used, and refined as a light-commercial general contractor in the course of starting and operating my own construction firm for 25 years,” says Ganaway.
