The City Council of Old Town, Maine, has voted to take over the operation of the transfer station from a private company, according to a report in the Bangor Daily News (Bangor, Maine).
The city’s contract with current operating company Pine Tree Waste Services expires March 31, at which point, the Public Works Department will take over at the facility, according to the report.
Construction and demolition debris can still be taken to the transfer station. The only change is that residents will not be able to dispose of household material at the site.
Household material will be picked up through a curbside program, according to the report.
