At the February 2005 City Council meeting in the City of Mission Viejo, Calif., the Council voted 5-0 to award Madison Materials of Santa Ana, Calif. an exclusive agreement to process construction and demolition debris and scrap generated citywide.
The City of Mission Viejo is believed to be first city in Orange County to authorize such an exclusive agreement for construction and demolition scrap processing.
Given the growth rates in south Orange County and the high percentage of construction and demolition materials in the city’s waste stream, it is anticipated the agreement will assist the city in complying with its obligations under AB 939, the State of California’s Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 that requires municipalities to reach a 50 percent recycling rate.
The agreement also complements the city’s comprehensive construction and demolition materials recycling ordinance passed in 2004, which covers a wide array of projects and promotes landfill avoidance.
The agreement between the City and Madison Materials begins in April 2005.
