The Louisville Arena Authority has asked building designer HOK Sport to include sustainable building features so the arena can obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The building may reuse brick from a power distribution station that is scheduled to be demolished at the project site, according to the report. The designer may also require that the arena be built using only local materials to gain LEED points.
Construction on the arena is scheduled to being in 2008 with the building opening in 2010.
