A building in Lorain, Ohio, that long housed a Fraternal Order of Eagles chapter is on that city’s “waiting list” to be demolished, although some city officials hope it can be spared.
According to a recent news item by the Elyria, Ohio-based Chronicle-Telegram, the building was constructed in 1918 and has been unoccupied “for several years.”
The building is reportedly owned by a construction firm that is tardy in putting up safety netting needed to prevent part of the structure’s façade from crumbling onto the sidewalk and street below.
The newspaper says the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986, but any renovation plans for it have stalled for lack of funding or tax credits.
