Long Beach, Calif., Considers Expanding Green Building Program

City Council votes to include private development in green construction plan.

Long Beach, Calif., City Council members have approved two measures to expand the city’s green building program, according to a report inn the Long Beach Press Telegram (Long Beach, Calif.).

One measure directs the city’s Department of Building and Planning to find ways to expand the green building program to private developments. The other requests the city manager to report back to the council on the feasibility of mandating a minimum green certification level for city projects.

The council approved a pilot program in 2003 that requires new city buildings and renovations of more than 5,000 square feet to incorporate green building practices, according to the report.
