The Waterford Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously Oct. 10, 2017 for demolition. According to a report in Crain’s Detroit Business, a local investment group had wanted to turn the property into a sports and entertainment complex, but after months of waiting, the group never submitted a development plan.
According to Core Partners, the Bingham Farms, Michigan, firm representing the owner, Santa Monica, California-based SD Capital LLC, the company faced a couple of hurdles in its redevelopment plan that prevented it from moving forward with a plan.
The estimated $4 million cost to demolish the nearly 1.4 million square-foot mall could fall to SD Capital. The property was reportedly condemned in December 2014. Crain’s says SD Capital must submit demolition plans and work would start 180 days after a permit is issued.
