Contract Awarded for Major Illinois Project

The LaSalle, Ill., City Council has awarded the contract for a $1.8 million wastewater improvement project to Illinois Constructors Corp., Elburn, Ill.

The scope of work for the project includes improvements to a steel dike; extending the height of the earthen berm by five feet along the northern side of a treatment plant; reshaping a holding pool; clearing a pump building; and moving the pumps to another location near the entrance to the plant. A roadway through the plant also will be repaired.

According to a news release from Illinois Constructors, the project is being funded through a Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program. The project’s expected completion is in February 2013.

About four years ago, La Salle's wastewater treatment plant was underwater as a rising Illinois River left the facility flooded and non-operational. When completed, the improvements will protect against “500-year” flood levels, according to Illinois Constructors.

Illinois Constructors describes itself as a heavy construction general contracting firm founded in 1975 and capable of “constructing, modernizing and restoring the integrity of vital structures such as bridges, railways, roadways, marinas, and other facilities for government, municipal and private clients.”
