Building materials supplier Lafarge, with its North American headquarters in Toronto, has commemorated its 50th anniversary in North America by holding a celebration at its first plant built on the continent.
Lafarge’s flagship cement plant was built in the city of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, in 1956, according to a press release from the company.
Through a series of mergers and acquisitions, the company expanded into the United States and became a publicly traded U.S. company in 1983. Today, Lafarge produces cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, asphalt and gypsum wallboard, and employs more than 16,000 people at approximately 1,000 sites throughout North America.
