Lafarge Announces Expansion

Company aims to double capacity of N.Y. facility.

Lafarge North America Inc., Toronto, has announced that it will put approximately $75 million into expanding and renovating its gypsum drywall manufacturing facility in Buchanan, N.Y., according to a release from the company.

 

The project is expected to begin in mid-2005 and is scheduled to be completed in 2006. Once finished, the facility is expected to be capable of producing 650 million square feet of gypsum wallboard per year, according to the release.

 

The Buchanan plant was built in 1960 and acquired by Lafarge in 1996. Lafarge operates four drywall plants in the United States and two in Canada.
