Lafarge Acquires Assets of Kansas Company

Ritchie Corp. will still retain C&D recycling, home building and concrete block businesses.

Lafarge North America Inc. has completed the purchase of the aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and paving assets of Ritchie Corp., a Wichita, Kansas, operation. Ritchie has been involved in paving and a materials supplier for close to 150 years.

“This acquisition brings more than 450 employees, three aggregates operations, seven ready-mix concrete plants, two asphalt plants, and one of the region’s largest paving contractors into Lafarge’s growing Western U.S. business,” said Bob Cartmel, president of Lafarge’s Western U.S. Region for Aggregates, Concrete & Asphalt. The business will be consolidated into Lafarge’s Aggregates, Concrete & Asphalt business segment.

According to Todd Cunningham, senior vice president of strategy and development, “ We selectively seek out development opportunities that expand and build upon our portfolio of assets. Ritchie is an excellent example of a company that meets our criteria in leveraging our performance culture and is consistent with our growth objectives.”

The company also announced that Matt Ritchie has been appointed GM of Lafarge’s Kansas Concrete business. Matt grew up in the concrete business and has worked in virtually every aspect of it.

Ritchie is retaining its home building, recycling and concrete block construction companies and will retain the Ritchie name and logo for those companies.
