Finnish Scrap Firm Makes Swedish Acquisition

Kuusakoski of Finland buys BRA Group of Sweden.

The Finnish recycling company Kuusakoski has acquired a 70 percent ownership stake in the BRA Group, a Swedish demolition and recycling firm. BRA, headquartered in Stockholm, consists of three companies involved in the demolition industry: Borrkompaniet AB, RÅD AB and ABVAC AB.

BRA Group operates throughout Sweden and also operates demolition projects in Norway.
According to a release issued by Kuusakoski, BRA Group will continue operating under its existing name, and Niclas Johansson, BRA Group’s CEO, will continue in his current position.

In its press release, Kuusakoski says the acquisition will allow it to expand its construction and demolition business in Sweden. “The acquisition already supports existing demolition business in Sweden,” says Petri Halonen, director of new businesses at Kuusakoski.

"The purchase means that one of our goals for 2010 - to grow in the demolition industry in southern Sweden - has been met, and therefore we are a new major player in Sweden in the demolition business,” says Ingrid Näsström, president of Kuusakoski Recycling. “Demolition service fits well into our business because we have extensive experience in optimizing, and in recycling we are an established supplier of raw materials. We also have a strong focus on logistics and environmental issues in common. I look forward to working with Niclas and the excellent business that he built with his staff, " she adds.

"We are very pleased with Kuusakoski as the new owner of the BRA Group,” says BRA Group CEO Johansson. “Kuusakoski has all the important components that BRA Group currently lacks. We are now stronger in recovery, and can now meet customer needs at a higher level. Being part of one of Scandinavia's most developed networks of receiving sites, and now with collection experience, makes us feel well prepared for the growing demand that exists for our services," he adds.
