At the 2020 ConExpo-Con/Agg event, Chicago-based Komatsu America Corp. put the spotlight on its Smart Construction set of services. For the 2023 event, the company will display several pieces of equipment with an “i” designation in the model name—the “i” standing for intelligent.

Komatsu says its PC360LCi-11 “intelligent” excavator features its iMC 2.0 technology, which is designed “to instill predictability into operations.” Additionally, a new tilting bucket on the excavator can ideally help maximize efficiency and productivity.

“With fully integrated grade assist, the PC360LCi-11 adjusts to the operator’s experience level, while the stroke-sensing hydraulic cylinders deliver critical precision and real-time positioning,” Komatsu says. “This powerful excavator can handle large jobs, and is equally adept at small- and mid-sized projects,” adds the equipment maker.

Komatsu says its newly introduced features have been developed “to help meet worker shortages and increase jobsite productivity” by offering optimized operations. “With machines that help quickly upskill workers and technology that aims to improve efficiency, at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2023, Komatsu will showcase how it can help customers optimize their workforce and create value,” the company says.

The American subsidiary of the Japan-based firm says the PC900LC-11 excavator has been designed for heavy construction, demolition, material handling, deep sewer, water, large mass excavation and mining and quarrying applications.

The excavator also comes equipped with a KomVision camera system and optional Smart Construction 3D guidance and payload monitoring feature.

Also on display at ConExpo will be two i-model “intelligent” dozers which, like its i-series excavator, can help to “lessen the skills gap between new and seasoned operators,” says Komatsu.

Komatsu says it will have additional equipment on display at the stands of two of its subsidiaries, including demolition attachments provider Montabert.
