King County Adopts Green Building Ordinance

Washington county will seek LEED certification for public construction projects, exec says.

King County, Wash., has adopted a green building ordinance, according to a release from the office of County Executive Ron Sims.

New county construction projects will follow green building guidelines set by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.

A new office building in downtown Seattle, a solid waste transfer station and portions of the Brightwater wastewater treatment plant are among the first projects to fall under the green building ordinance.

Some green construction features the projects will incorporate are water conserving plumbing fixtures, construction debris recycling, energy efficient lighting and use of non-toxic building materials.
