The Kentucky International Convention Center, Louisville, Kentucky, is being renovated with interior demolition in currently in progress, a report by the Courier-Journal says. The center closed in August for the $207 million renovation and expansion.
The center will reopen in the summer of 2018 with 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, a 40,000 square foot ballroom and the ability to house up to 25 percent more convention business annually, according to the report.
The old western half of the site is scheduled to be demolished the week of Oct. 9., the report says. The demolition of the pedway from Cowger Garage to the convention center is scheduled for Oct. 7-10. Market Street, where the pedway is located, will close at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 and reopen Oct. 10 at 6 a.m. The garage will be closed for several days.
An additional pedway from the Lousville Hyatt Regency to the convention center is also scheduled to be demolished Oct. 14-17. Jefferson Street, where the pedway is located, will close beginning 6 p.m. Oct. 14 and reopen on Oct. 17 at 6 a.m., the report says. The nearby Louisville Visitors Center will also be closed that weekend.
