The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will hold a public comment period regarding the proposed expansion of a construction and demolition waste landfill operated by Cornejo & Sons Inc., currently operating under a permit from KDHE in Wichita, Kansas.
Cornejo & Sons, Inc. has submitted an application for an additional two-acre C&D waste disposal area south of the existing disposal area. Additionally, the application includes increasing the landfill’s final elevation by 39 feet. The expansion would result in a 37-acre landfill site with 26.5 acres permitted for waste disposal.
An informational meeting and public hearing on the expansion will be held on Sept. 30, 2009 in Wichita.
A copy of the administrative record including the draft permit, permit application, engineering drawings and other information will be available for public review. Along with the permit being able to be viewed at a number of public sites, it can be accessed at http://www.kdheks.gov/waste.
Comments should be sent to Charles Bowers, KDHE Southeast District Office, 1500 West 7th, Chanute, Kansas 66720, by fax to (620) 431-1211, or by e-mail to cbowers@kdheks.gov.
