The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc. (ISRI) has announced plans for its 2010 Summer Convention & Exposition, which will take place June 24-26 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott near Houston.
The convention will start with a golf tournament followed by an evening reception open to all attendees, speakers and exhibitors.
Presentations on the agenda, according to the Chapter, include:
• “Health Care Reform Passed What Now?” offering insight into guidelines, timelines and compliance changes in the way health care is obtained, delivered, paid for and regulated.
• “Legislative Issues Affecting the Scrap Industry” is a roundtable that has been asked to focus on issues that affect the seven states in the Gulf Coast Chapter. It will be moderated by Arnold Gachman of Gamtex Industries in Fort Worth, Texas. Panelists include: J. Barton Seitz, ISRI Gulf Coast Chapter Legislative Advisor; Staci S. Minchen of the Oklahoma Recyclers Association; John R. Pitts, Government Relations staff member from the Texas Recycling Council; and David Williamson, president of the Arkansas Recyclers Association.
• “Metals After the Crisis” has been designed as a presentation about metals, markets, and prices in the wake of the recent economic crisis. The presentation will include a look ahead into the future for metals, as the world returns to an era of broad-based growth. There will also be a discussion of the risks that remain for the economy, the job market, the financial and the commodities markets. Jason Schenker, the president and chief economist of Prestige Economics, Austin, Texas, will lead the discussion.
• “Partnering with ScrapTheftAlert.com,” is a workshop designed to review www.ScrapTheftAlert.com, an ISRI program that allows law enforcement agencies to share stolen material information with recycling facilities and other law enforcement agencies. Gary Bush, ISRI director of material theft prevention and its national law enforcement liaison, will be joined by law enforcement officers from Florida, Michigan and Texas.
• “Tire Recycling in 2010-2011” has been designed to look at what the future holds for tire recycling industries in the Gulf Coast Region and nationally.
• “Meet Your Electronic Recyclers” offers a chance for the Electronics Division of ISRI to present an overview of the membership, and explain how recyclers address material value, asset management, data security as well as reasons to adopt the ISRI/R2 certification. Panelists include: John Chilcott of VJ2C, Inc., Phoenix, Ariz.; Bobby Farris of Waste Management/Recycle America, Houston; and Craig Boswell of HOBI International Inc., Dallas.
Located less than 30 miles north of downtown Houston and 15 miles north of George Bush Intercontinental Airport, The Woodlands, Texas, offers “world-class golf, shopping on the famous Market Street, 5-star dining and entertainment,” according to a news release from the Gulf Coast Chapter.
