The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) is accepting submissions for its annual Design for Recycling Initiative Award. The program, in its 20th year, has been developed to encourage manufacturers to think about the ultimate destiny of their products during the design-stage of the product’s development.
The Design for Recycling Award is ISRI’s highest award that is given to the most outstanding contribution to products designed with recycling in mind.
In order to be considered for the Design for Recycling Award, candidates must demonstrate progress towards ensuring their products can be recycled safely and economically, using existing recycling technologies and methods; eliminating or significantly reducing materials that may impede recycling, including hazardous or toxic materials; increasing the yield of a product’s recyclable materials; and the increased use of recycled materials in manufacturing.
The award ceremony is held in conjunction with ISRI’s Annual Convention and Exposition.
“We are incredibly encouraged by the reception the Design for Recycling Award has received over the past couple of years by a wide variety of industries,” says Emanuel Bodner, chairman of ISRI’s Design for Recycling Task Force and president of Bodner Metal and Iron Corp., Houston. “We know that the Design for Recycling Award will continue to grow as an important symbol of a commitment towards improving the recyclability of products.”
Nominations for the awards should be submitted no later than February 1, 2011 and be directed to Billy Johnson at billyjohnson@isri.org.
