A village council in Florida has approved the selection of a contractor to tear down a vacant retail building to clear the land for redevelopment.
According to an early February online news report, the Islamorada Village Council has approved the selection of Key Largo, Florida-based J. A. LoRocco Enterprises to take down the building at a cost of $53,400.
The news item on the Keys Weekly website says the former Island Silver and Spice building will initially give way to a parking lot, although residents have provided input to council they prefer to see the site be redeveloped after the village paid $2.75 million for it.
A 2007 lawsuit involving the property indicates the building is 12,000 square feet in size.
