The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is requesting residents of the state to provide feedback on a proposed revision of disposal requirements for construction and demolition waste.
"C&D regulations are a concern because the existing rules and laws pertaining to their management lack adequate protection for the environment and are not equitable when compared to the rule requirements for Municipal Solid Waste landfills (MSW)," said Alex Moon, with the DNR solid waste program.
The DNR is specifically requesting detailed responses and comments pertaining to any or all of the proposed revisions.
Deadline for comments is Dec. 1, 2008. Interested parties can submit their comments to the Iowa DNR, Attn: Alex Moon, 502 East 9th St., Des Moines, IA 50319.
Current rules, proposed revisions and a memo explaining what the revisions intend to accomplish are available at www.iowadnr.gov/waste/policy/cdlandfill.html.
Depending on the comments received, the DNR could possibly schedule public meetings for further discussions.
After gathering comments, the DNR will present the recommendations to the Environmental Protection Commission (EPC) for review. A draft rule revision will then be provided to the EPC at its January 2009 meeting.
