Iowa Businesses Recognized for C&D Recycling Efforts

Ten Iowa businesses and organizations will be honored for construction and demolition recycling efforts, according to a report in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa).

The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency’s Green Vision Buildings Program is designed to help construction and demolition professionals in Dubuque and Delaware counties by offering guidelines and procedures for establishing recycling programs at work sites.

Award-winning groups must divert at least 70 percent of material from landfill, according to the report.

Since 2003, 31 building and demolition projects have diverted more than 160,000 tons of material from the landfill.

The 2008 Green Vision Buildings Enviro-Stars Honor Roll includes: city of Dubuque Housing Department; Mike Winger Construction Co.; Dubuque Community School District; Straka Johnson Architects PC; Durrant Group Inc.; D.W. Zinser Co. Inc.; Portzen Construction Inc.; Epic Construction; Tricon Construction Group; Highway 151/61 Development.
